I've done some research and couldn't find an answer. I wrote to the head of the Apache Junction (city where Silly Mountain is located) Parks & Rec dept and he didn't have an answer either. There's a Superstition Mountain museum in Apache Junction. I'm going to try there when I get around to it.
Somebody has to ask, why is it called SIlly Mountain? (my Google is broke today. :-))
